I 1994 valgte a-ha og ta en pause der bandmedlemmene Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen og da Paul Waaktaar-Savoy fokuserte på å videreutvikle sine musikalske og kunsteriske evner hver på sin kant.

Waaktaar-Savoy valgte å danne bandet Savoy og utvikle musikk innenfor sjangeren Indie Rock.

In 1994 the bandmembers at a-ha, Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy choose to have a break and to develop their musical and artistic capacity on their own.

Waaktaar-Savoy choose to establish the band Savoy and to create music within the music genre Indie Rock.

Paul Waaktaar-Savoy møtte sin kone Lauren Savoy, født 17 april 1963 i Boston USA allerede på 80-tallet. I 1991 giftet de seg og er nå bosatt delvis i New York, USA og delvis i Oslo. Alle låter av bandet Savoy er skrevet av Paul Waaktaar-Savoy og Lauren Savoy.

Trommeslager Frode Unneland er av flere regnet som en av norges dyktigste trommeslagere og har spilt i band som Chocolate Overdose, Popium og for artisten Sondre Lerche.

Paul Waaktaar-Savoy meet his wife Lauren Savoy, born 17th of April 1963, Boston US, already at 80`s. They get married in 1991 and they are now reside partly in New York, US and Oslo, Norway. All songs of the band Savoy are written by Paul & Lauren Waaktaar-Savoy.

The drummer Frode Unneland are among a number of several, well-known as one of the best drummer in Norway and have played with bands like Chocolate Overdose, Popium and the well-known Norwegian artist Sondre Lerche.

Savoy har hatt stor suksess i Norge der de har solgt totalt ca. 300 000 album.

Savoy har vunnet Spellemannsprisen to ganger, Årets Popgruppe i 1999 for albumet "Mountains Of Time" og Årets popgruppe i 2001 for albumet "Reasons To Stay Indoors".

De mest kjente låtene regnes som "Velvet", "Rain", "Star", "Grind You Down", "If You Won`t Come To The Party" og "Whalebone". Sistenevnte er også en soundtrack som finnes på den kjente norske filmen "Hawaii, Oslo".
